Our Seniors lost to St. Pats on Saturday, 19th April by 1gl 11 pts to 9 pts. St Pats completely dominated the first half of this match and led at half time by 1gl 10 pts to 4 pts. The Firies pts coming from C. O'Shea, two from frees and one from play and a pt by N.B. Foley. Firies having brought on Donogh O'Donoghue and Liam Hickey late in the first half and this tightened up the defence and even though St. Pats were the first to score in the second half, Firies were to play far better in the second half and held St. Pats to just this pt for the duration of the second half of the game. With Firies having pts from C. O'Shea, one from play and one from a free, an Alan Looney pt from a free and pt each from L. Hickey and Ian Crowley saw Firies well in the game. Firies had a couple of goal chances with C. O'Shea just inches wide with a shot and a couple of goal mouth-scrambles been cleared off the line. Best for Firies were P. Dineen in goal, B. Spring, A. Courtney and L. Hickey. Team: P. Dineen, B. Spring, J. Casey, Sean Sullivan, D. Spring, G. Brown, A. Courtney, A. Looney, D. Daly, M Sullivan, N.B. Foley, Ian Crowley, J. Sherwood, C. East Kerry Junior League Div 2 Date : Tuesday 15th April 2008 Firies : 1-05 Scartaglen 0-09 The Firies B team played their second game in the popular East Kerry Junior League in Pairc Eamonn on Tuesday evening last the 15th April 2008 and suffering a narrow defeat to a stronger Scartaglen side who had won their first game against Killarney Legion. Played in fabulous weather conditions Firies started very well and led at half time on a scoreline of 1-04 to 0-6. The home side's goal coming from a penalty after one of the forwards was pulled down in the square. In a very ill-tempered 2nd half in which Scartaglen had 3 players dismissed, two for Straight Red card offences, Firies would only score 1 further point against the 12 man Scartaglen outfit, which ended up costing Firies the game. In this 2nd period Scartaglen scored 3 points to run out winners on a final scoreline of Firies 1-05 Scartaglen 0-9. Firies will play Legion in round 3 on next Tuesday evening in Direen when hopefully the team will pull off their first win of the year.

******************************* East Kerry Junior League Div 2 Date : Tuesday 8th April 2008 Firies : 1-7 Currow 1-9 The Firies B team under the management team of Paudie Daniel, Tim Breen and Timmy Casey started the 2008 season in Pairc Eamonn on Tuesday evening last the 8th April 2008 and suffering a 2 point defeat to near neighbours Currow. Played in ideal weather conditions Firies started in a lively fashion with 2 good points scored by midfielder Shane O' Sullivan from play and a point from a 30 yard free from Jerry O' Sullivan. At the short whistle the game was deadlocked at 4 points each with Firies having the upper hand in many areas of the field. Firies received a tonic start to the 2nd half with a well taken goal by wing back Pat Browne which appeared to set Firires on their way, this was followed by a well taken point from corner forward Padraig O' Keeffe. Unfortunately Firies failed to build on this platform and proceeded to concede a soft goal to the opposition & this proved the ultimate turning point. Firies were guilty of kicking several wides from scoreable positions in the 2nd half which ultimately cost them victory. Currow gradually took control of this game and kicked some good points to eventually run out winners on a final scoreline of 1-9 to 1-7. Best for Firies on the night were Pat and Gearoid Browne in defence, Shane Sullivan at Midfield with Jerry O' Sullivan and Niall McCarthy doing best up front. Firies will play Scartaglen at home in round 2 on next Tuesday evening where its hoped the team can build on their opening game and hopefully secure a win. The management team would like to thank Danny O' Sullivan, Veterinary Surgeon, Farranfore for kindly sponsoring a fabulous set of jerseys for the B team for the year. Firies : Brendan Quirke, Mike O' Sullivan, Donnagh Donoghue, Sean O' Sullivan, Pat Browne, Gearoid Browne, Donal O' Connell, James Casey, Shane O' Sullivan, Niall McCarthy, Noel McCarthy, Jerry O' Sullivan, Padraig O' Keeffe, Vincent Horgan, James Daly.
